me and the curiosity presented “Sustainable Self-Destruction”, Enrique Baeza´s first individual exhibition. From the 23rd of October and for only 4 days, the exhibition took place on the 5th floor of an industrial building on Vilafranca St. Number 7, of Barcelona.
The young artist and communication veteran had proposed the challenge of searching for that which constitutes the nucleus of language. Meticulously conceived, Baeza´s words have materialized in the form of a dialect that breaks with integral advertising.
Pertinent and precise, Baeza´s work is a series of brief declarations that fall somewhere between poetry, advertising slogans or a statement of propaganda in which the truth that lies in written gesture confronts us. Ironic and playful, they charge at us, immerse us, or caress us, all the while irrevocably pulling us into our own emotional and painful relationship with the truth.
Heir to the artistic traditions of Brossa, Holzer, Baldessari, Kosuth and Ruscha, Baeza´s proposal defends and reclaims interpersonal communication from the intimate relationship between an individual and language, forming a middle ground from the words.
